SOLCIR Passion Portrait Christine Haber and Miguel Ortega

What inspired you to do this? The evidence of our privileges compared to other people that are less fortunate and the clear and hurting need of solidarity.

Christine: Throughout a great part of my life and my family’s life we have gone through very many different circumstances, some of them very difficult and tough. Nevertheless I have also had the opportunity of noticing the great amount of people going through much worst situations than I could ever have imagined. Therefore I am very conscious of my current privileged life and would feel ashamed not to try, in some way, to ease the pain of others less fortunate. I am conscious of my own weakness and that I am no hero, far form that…. But at least I would like to put my bit to make this world better.

We take advantage of this “portrait” to spread the word….SOLIDARITY FOR ALL!!

Miguel: I have been lucky to have a solid family who were able to give me suitable education which has guided me in the important decisions of my life. Acknowledging that other people were not that fortunate, I have decided to give some back through SOLCIR and other personal contributions.

For the last 6 years we both support SOLCIR, and through this platform, we organize events to raise funds for:

• Centro de Acogida e Reinserción de Personas sin Hogar de Alicante

• Asociación para Enfermos, familiares y amigos de enfermos de Alzheimer de Alicante

Whenever required we also try to collaborate with other colleagues in other event for various ONGs/Associations.

Christine: I have volunteered at the AFA (Alzheimer association) during 10 months, keeping company to patients and helping families in their daily life.

Miguel: I am an acting volunteer for the Centro de Acogida. I support residents to improve their computer literacy, i.e the basic IT skills needed to manage their accounts and draft their CVs to respond to online job offers.

We hope to become stronger by helping others, because helping others is helping oneself! So let’s all be egoists. ;-)
